Sylvester Stallone Making A Rocky Musical With The Klitschko Brothers.

November 23, 2011 By Mike B

Sylvester Stallone is teaming up with Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, the technically sound, most boring heavyweight champs of the sport’s history, to make a stage musical based on Rocky. Talk about milking the cow for all it’s worth. Who thought that boxing and musicals were a winning combo? Nobody.

Stallone and the Klitschkos will produce Rocky: The Musical, and the project will be focusing more on Rocky’s romantic side.

“At the end of the day, Rocky is a love story and he could never have reached the final bell without Adrian,” said Stallone. “To see this story coming to life on a musical stage makes me proud. And it would make Rocky proud.”

The Klitschko brothers, on top of producing, will also be training the lead actor, who hasn’t been csat yet, in the sweet science of the gloved sport. So all the boxing scenes may knockout the audience via boredom, but that’s where the music and singing comes in to give the audience a laugh. Try and watch a Klitschko fight with the backdrop song being “Eye of the Tiger”  or “Gonna Fly Now” and see if that mixes well (Vitali Klitschko v. Lennox Lewis is an exception). Of course, the Klitschko’s aren’t choreographing the fight, and if they are they could fire it up a bit.

This $15 million musical will debut in Hamburg on November 2012, and Stallone will plan to take the musical on the road to stages around the world. At least he’s not making another Rocky film, as he capped off the series pretty well.
