First Look at Matt Damon in Elysium

July 05, 2012 By Mike B

In 2009, Neill Blomkamp hit audiences with a pretty amazing film called District 9 that satisfied Sci-Fi lovers with its solid script, body-exploding guns, and a terrific performance from newcomer Sharlto Copley. Blomkamp made his debut film with a very conservative budget,  and managed to shard on the effects in Michael Bay’s Transformers 3. Blomkamp has been busy working on a new project called Elysium, starring Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley and Jodie Foster, and we’ve finally been given a first pic.

Matt Damon sure does look battle-ready with his clean dome and monstrous weapon that probably rapid-fires alien H-bombs. I’d say he looks a little miscast here, but that’s what I was also thinking when the first Bourne Identity trailer came out, and that film made me a believer. With that weapon and his clean dome, he looks like he could be sent back to the Dinosaur ages to wipe out the dinosaurs.

Elysium Synopsis:

“In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.”
